Trinity (CA) Journal Sold Weaverville, CA – The Trinity Journal, one of California’s earliest newspapers founded in 1856 during the Gold Rush, has been sold to a longtime California journalist and editor, it was announced today. Wayne Agner is taking over ownership of the Trinity Journal, a 4,350 paid circulation based in the county seat of Weaverville and serving Trinity County just west of Redding, CA. The Journal has been owned and operated by Mike Wenninger since 1993. “I’m 70 years old and I’ve been in newspaper work or an allied field like public relations for half a century,” Wenninger said. “This is a good time to start new adventures in my life.” Agner comes to Trinity County after three and a half years as managing editor of the Mohave Valley Daily News in Bullhead City, Ariz. Born and raised in Southern California, Agner spent his entire professional career with newspapers in central and northern California prior to his recent position in Arizona. “I look forward to getting back to California and exploring all that Trinity County has to offer," Agner said. "Mike has done a wonderful job with the Journal over the years; my goal will be to build upon that solid foundation he has left." The sale is scheduled to close on Feb. 6th. The transaction is being handled by JP Media Partners, a newspaper merger-and-acquisition firm based in Gold River, CA.
